Abstract
Some patients with diabetes mellitus may present with gastrointestinal complaints as a manifestation of a visceral neuropathy. On X-ray examination of the stomach, a marked increase in gastric secretions is seen frequently associated with diminution in peristalsis. A repeat study after the patient fasts for 24 hr. usually reveals a normal stomach. On occasion, nondiabetic patients may demonstrate similar X-ray findings.
