Design of a control system for steel ball surface vision detecting based on LabVIEW and DSP

Abstract

The detecting instrument for steel ball surface defect is applied to detecting external bug area of steel ball. The main controller we adopted is the DSP chip of TMS320LF2407A, and integrated with CPLD, we developed the embedded control system of stepping motor. The host computer adopted LabVIEW to realize the image processing, the PID control, and the serial communication between the host computer and DSP. Aimed at the need of precise control for the position of steel ball and the velocity of stepping motor, we improved the PID sampling control which is based on virtual instrument and provided a new PID algorithm. The new algorithm respectively modified the function of proportion, integral and differential, and advanced the count accuracy of sampling frequency deviant. This paper put forward the design of hardware circuit and serial port software for communication between LabVIEW and DSP, and realized the whole system simulation using the tool kit of LabVIEW PID Control. Experimental results indicated that this control system satisfied excellently the requirements of high speed and real-time image detection.
