Abstract
Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures currently performed by dermatologic surgeons and plastic surgeons. Since liposuction was introduced in the United States in 1982, many advances have been made in instrumentation and technique. The introduction of the tumescent anesthesia approach by Jeffrey Klein, MD, in 1986 revolutionized liposuction surgery. Since that time, dermatologic surgeons have used this technique in their offices with an excellent safety record. This article reviews the safety record of dermatologic liposuction and discusses the various liposuction cannulas used for different anatomical locations.
