For the examination of peripheral sudomotor function, quantitative sudomotor axon reflex testing (QSART) was established and evaluated recently. Based on an axon reflex, an indirect sweat response from eccrine sweat glands is evoked after application of acetylcholine to the skin. Using an appropriate setting, a dynamic and quantitative measurement of sweat response is possible. This method is especially useful for sensitive evaluation of autonomic disturbances, that can occur during the course of peripheral neuropathies. As non-invasive, technical simple method, it can easily be used for follow-up examinations.
