Abstract
A catastrophe-theoretic approach for modelling two-state transconformation reactions, developed previously by the authors, is generalized here to treat multistate transitions. The manner in which phase-type diagrams arise is shown. An application is made to the denaturation of lysozyme and the problem of viral assembly is discussed.
