Abstract
The electromagnetic M1 operator contains not only the usually dominant isovector (IV) spin (στ) term, but also IV orbital (lτ), isoscalar (IS) spin (σ) and IS orbital (l) terms. By using the facts that IS and IV terms couple with reverse signs in analogous M1 transitions in Tz = ±1/2 mirror nuclei and that Gamow-Teller (GT) operator contains only στ term, we discuss the separation of IS and IV terms of M1 transitions in Tz = ±1/2 nuclei and the contribution of lτ term in the IV term of Tz = 0 as well as ±1/2 nuclei, respectively. In deriving the latter, effects of meson exchange currents (MEC) are corrected. γ decay and (e, e′) data are used for the study of B(M1) strengths. The B(GT) values are studied in good-resolution (3He, t) reactions at 150 MeV/nucleon.
