Abstract

The most common disorders of the acromioclavicular joint include acromioclavicular separations, acromioclavicular arthritis, and distal clavicle fractures. Although the majority of patients with acromioclavicular joint injuries can successfully be treated nonoperatively, a select group can benefit from surgical intervention. The indications for surgery, as well as the type of surgery, remain controversial. We discuss these controversies as well as the current trends in the management of acromioclavicular joint injuries.
