Abstract
Although fiberoptic endoscopy has been used extensively in the diagnosis of bleeding in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, its use for control of such bleeding remains experimental. The application of an argon laser coupled to a conventional fiberoptic endoscope for photocoagulation of small blood vessels is a promising approach to the problem. Bleeding time and blood loss are reduced, tissue damage is minimal, and healing is not delayed.
