Abstract

A computer automated system for the noninvasive measurement of systematic arterial pressure of the rabbit is reported. Diastolic and systolic pressures are determined by the temporal coincidence between the value of an externally applied pressure ramp and the digitally processed signal representative of the time varying transmission of light through the artery under compression. This system allows for the rapid, noninvasive and repeated measurement of arterial pressures which have previously been difficult to obtain, especially in chronic animal studies lasting many months.
