Abstract

The synthesis of polyoma surface antigen (S) during abortive transformation and of Epstein Barr virus (EBV)associated membrane antigen (MA) during abortive infection was studied. The synthesis of the S antigen was inhibited by inhibitors of DNA synthesis, but MA was still synthesized in their presence. Puromycin inhibited the synthesis of both antigens, while actinomycin D, added after infection, inhibited the appearance of EBV MA to some extent, and not only failed to inhibit S antigen synthesis, but also prevented its characteristic decline late in abortive transformation.
