Abstract
Midazolam, hydroxyzine, and a placebo were compared as I.M. surgical premedicants. A double-blind randomized sequence was used employing 0.07 mg/kg midazolam, 10 mg/kg hydroxyzine and 0.014 ml/kg of placebo solution (midazolam vehicle). Each group consisted of 30 patients. Anxiety relief and sedation were the principal assessments. Midazolam was generally superior to hydroxyzine and is a useful intramuscular premedicant.
