Abstract

There is substantial evidence that CBT, particularly ERP, is a safe and effective treatment for OCD. It should be considered seriously for all patients with OCD due to its efficacy and its promise in maintaining remission. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of trained therapists to deliver this proven treatment. Additional research is necessary to understand more clearly what is effective, and for which patients with OCD. It also is important to realize that many patients are left with notable OCD symptoms despite treatment and that some patients are not helped by CBT, often because they are unable to comply with treatment.
