Abstract
A review of the literature revealed that Clostridium welchii has been implicated as a cause of septic arthritis only 4 times. The organism was introduced through an open wound in 3 cases, but in 1 instance, no open injury preceded the clostridial arthritis. All 4 cases were treated with an antibiotic and arthrotomy. The purpose of this paper is to present another case of clostridial arthritis, this 1 treated successfully and antibiotics and hyperbaric oxygenation, and without arthrotomy.
