Abstract

Effective risk management requires identification of litigation-prone areas and implementation of preventive or corrective actions throughout a facility. The top targets in nursing home litigation are pressure ulcers, malnutrition and dehydration, and injurious falls. This article discusses major areas for litigation risk and outlines what health care professionals practicing in long-term care facilities should know about their exposure in the event that a lawsuit is directed against them or their facility.
