Abstract
Alterations in the circulating pool of lymphoid cells have been demonstrated in patients with chronic viral keratitis. These cells exhibit morphologic abnormalities with a spontaneous increase in DNA synthesis and an increased potential for long-term in vitro proliferation. These changes in circulating lymphocytes of patients with chronic viral keratitis suggest systemic recognition of this localized process, and that cell-mediated immunologic responses may play a role in the pathogenesis of this chronic eye disorder.
