Abstract

This chapter describes how social injustice impacts children. Root causes and underlying factors include economic injustice, structural racism, and other forms of discrimination, environmental injustice, and inadequate advocacy and representation for children’s voices. The chapter describes priority actions needed to address this social injustice. Priorities include measures to reduce poverty and economic inequality, measures to address racism and other forms of discrimination, measures to protect children from violence, measures to improve healthcare access and quality, measures to improve education and address early childhood development, and measures to improve social support systems. They also include national and international cooperation to support children’s rights. In addition, ongoing research is needed to inform evidence-based interventions addressing child health inequities.
