Abstract

Chiari malformation represents a heterogeneous group of hindbrain malformations with the Chiari type 1 being the most common form. Herein, we attempt a comprehensive overview of the subject aiming to provide the pediatrician with a working knowledge that will help: (1) have an appropriate level of suspicion for the pathology during a workup for headaches or other neurologic symptoms, (2) understand the rationale for operative or conservative treatment, and (3) follow up confidently with pediatric Chiari patients that have been managed either surgically or conservatively.
