Abstract

Cervical osteomyelitis with secondary vertebral subluxation and spinal cord compression occurred in two patients following resection for pharyngeal cancer. This complication was secondary to local infection following slough of the split thickness skin graft which had been used in the pharyngeal reconstruction. The prior full-dose irradiation was instrumental in the graft failure. The diagnosis and treatment of cervical osteomyelitis with neurologic sequelae is discussed.
