Abstract

In summary, HIV/HBV coinfection greatly accelerates the rate of progression of liver disease and death. The HBV PCR and resistance profile are becoming paramount tests to manage chronic HBV infection. A variety of treatment options exist, and the cornerstone theme of maximally suppressing replication to decrease pathogenicity and drug resistance, once the exclusive domain of HIV therapy, seems poised to become the basis of chronic HBV management as well.
