Abstract

To the Editor: We would like to call attention to what we consider to be an uncharacteristic omission in the presentation of Case 51–1982 (Dec. 23 issue).1 The last paragraph states “Some psychiatric symptoms developed and were attributed to steroid therapy. Unfortunately, on admission to another hospital about six months later the patient took her life.” This represents a missed opportunity to discuss more fully what must be viewed as a serious therapeutic complication. Although the information presented in this case does not permit the reader to determine whether the “psychiatric symptoms” were steroid-related or attributable to primary psychiatric illness,.
