Abstract

To the Editor: Case 37–1979 in the September 13 issue brings to focus the serious problems associated with undifferentiated thyroid carcinoma. At the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens, having treated over 50 cases of such tumors among almost 6000 patients undergoing thyroid operations in the last 14 years, we have had ample opportunity to observe all kinds of conditions and sad outcomes, and we concur with most comments. We wish to take issue, however, with the closing remarks about the uniformly dismal prognosis. We shared this attitude until we recently treated a few patients with undifferentiated carcinomas that were amenable to.
