Abstract

To the Editor: Geriatric assessment units are relatively new and promising developments in geriatric health care. As Rowe points out (March 28 issue),1 their value as compared with that of more traditional forms of care and their cost effectiveness are still under determination. However, his reference only to the article by Rubenstein et al.2 in discussing the results of research on the effectiveness of geriatric evaluation units does not provide an accurate representation of the state of research in this area. In the interest of providing a focus for this issue, we refer to two other controlled studies.3,4 The.
