Cardiorespiratory effects of central nervous system derangements

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The patient with central nervous system pathology is characterized by a hypoxic, hyperdynamic state. Cardiorespiratory changes are most usually manifestations of significant elevations in plasma catecholamine levels caused by mechanical brain compression. Therapy includes adequate oxygenation, beta-adrenergic blockade, and ICP control.
