Abstract
A study was made of the hygienic conditions, building facilities and environments of the regional general hospital of Ancona and the district hospital of Camerino, both in the Marches region of Italy, with regard to the conditions of the buildings and the types and numbers of patients received. Both hospitals were found to be in need of improvement; in the hospital at Camerino this was largely due to obsolete buildings, whereas overcrowding was the main problem in the hospital at Ancona.
