Abstract
A system was developed to study the capacity of wireless systems in indoor channels using a three-dimensional multi-polarized multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channel measurement system designed for indoor channels. The system was used to measure the three-dimensional spatial distribution of the incident signals and calculate the radial pattern of the antenna to get the system capacity. The measurement system was used to measure the capacity of an MIMO system with three polarizations to evaluate the influence of the multi-polarized antenna's direction on the capacity. The results show that for an indoor channel the three polarization system is superior to a single polarization. Thus, the system can be used to optimize the design and layout of multi-polarized MIMO systems to increase the capacity.
