Abstract
Thorough understanding of the organization of the brainstem and its intrinsic vascular compartments enables the physician (1) to plan an adequate imaging examination on the basis of the patient's symptoms and neurologic deficits, (2) recognize the patterns of ischemic infarction displayed on the images, and (3) predict patient signs and symptomatology from the structures shown to be involved.
