Abstract

This chapter conceptualizes GI diseases from the biopsychosocial model, focusing on the most up-to-date knowledge of the biology of the brain-gut axis and the psychosocial factors that lead to dysregulation of this axis. There is also an emphasis on doctor-patient communication as it relates to the diagnosis and management of biopsychosocially complex cases.
