Abstract

RNA VIRUSES related to those causing tumours in chickens and mice have now been found in many other species1. In some, such as the cat, there is strong evidence that the viruses are causative agents of cancer in the natural hosts2-4. The same studies have raised the possibility that man may also carry such viruses, perhaps in a more covert form1. There have been reports of "virus-like" particles in human plasma5 and, in one case, in a liposarcoma in tissue culture6.
