Abstract

The presence of carotid stenosis is a risk factor for the development of neurologic complications in the postoperative period after cardiac operations. The optimal approach to the patient with severe cardiac disease combined with carotid occlusive disease remains controversial. Patients who suffer from high-grade bilateral carotid stenosis are the most challenging group to manage. We present the case of a patient successfully treated with bilateral one-stage carotid endarterectomy combined with aortic valve replacement A brief review of the literature is also attempted.
