Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood. Deficits in social communication are characterized by impaired social-emotional reciprocity, nonverbal communication, and peer relationships. This chapter includes a discussion of ASD epidemiology, etiology, prevention, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Treatment recommendations include relevant scientific evidence.
