Abstract

The strength and rigidity of dies can be effectively improved if the technique of prestressed strip-wound dies is applied. The determination of winding layers number of strip-wound dies is one of the key technologies in designing., which plays an important role in the derivation of calculating formulae of winding tension force. In this paper, we simplify the winding die insert to be a thick-walled cylinder. Basing on the Lame's formula and strength theory, we establish the approach how to determine winding layers of prestressed strip-wound dies. The number of the layers, which can't be solved by analytic methods, is calculated by VC++ application interface, using this program can calculate automatically. Three practical samples have been demonstrated by comparing the prestressed strip-wound dies' size with the conventional assembled ring dies', the brittle material dies insert winding layers with plastic material dies', as well as the allowance strength increase which changes along with the winding layers of the plastic material dies insert changes. The results prove the feasibility of the method which is established in this paper to determine winding layers of prestressed strip wound dies, as well as the advantages of strip-wound dies over the conventional assembled ring dies.
