Abstract

In order to solve the problem of steel tendons corrosion in concrete bridge, CFCC (carbon fiber composite cable), a kind of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) tendons, is introduced to serve as external tendon for prestressing. The structural properties of concrete bridge externally prestressed with CFCC, and the analysis methods of deflection, ductility, bending and shear design of the bridge are discussed. According to the methods, a simple girder of Hewei bridge in Huai'an, Jiangsu, China was designed; and the finite element method etc. are used to analyze its ductility and flexural capacity. It can be concluded that the tendon stress, crack width, deflection, ductility, and the flexural capacity of the bridge all meet the design specification. Therefore this kind of bridges is promising.
