Abstract
Apomorphine in high doses given orally aggravated the psychotic symptoms of schizophrenics, even though they continued treatment with previously effective doses of neuroleptics. At low doses, apomorphine failed to augment the beneficial effects of antipsychotic drugs. Attempts to manage schizophrenia by selective blockade of presynaptic dopamine receptors may be difficult, and be possibly of limited clinical utility.
