Anticoagulation therapy for atrial fibrillation in patients with implanted cardiac arrhythmia devices

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia requiring medical treatment. Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter (AFl) are common cardiac arrhythmias associated with an increased incidence of stroke in patients with additional risk factors. The focus of this article, oral anticoagulation (OAC) therapy, reduces the risk of stroke. However, it is usually initiated after AF is documented on an electrocardiogram or after an ischemic event occurs.
