Abstract
A woman with proliferactive diabetic retinopathy developed angle closure following panretinal photocoagulation. High-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed anterior rotation of the ciliary body with shallowing of the anterior chamber secondary to a ciliochoroidal effusion. Swelling of the pars plicata was also noted. The patient was treated with a cycloplegic and topical corticosteroids. Repeat ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed resolution of the ciliochoroidal fluid and pars plicata swelling, deepening of the anterior chamber, and opening of the angle. Ultrasound biomicroscopic images confirmed the currently believed mechanism for angle closure following panretinal photocoagulation.
