Abstract

AFE is a rare but devastating disorder that may occur during delivery or abortion. There is no specific diagnostic test for AFE. Patients usually present with severe dyspnea, hypotension, and hyperemia, rapidly followed by cardiopulmonary arrest. Survivors develop ARDS and coagulopathy and are usually left with severe neurologic deficits. Prompt recognition and attention to the ABCs portend for a better outcome in these unfortunate patients.
