Abstract

The use of a disposable ACORN nebulizer for topical anesthesia of the airway is described. The advantages of the technique include simplicity, noninvasiveness and the use of equipment that is inexpensive and already available in the operating room. It is rapid, easy, and can provide preoxygenation simultaneously with nebulization. There is no patient discomfort. The doses of nebulized lidocaine are below the toxic level.
