Abstract
The authors present radiologic evidence documenting the rapid progression of destructive skeletal disease after splenectomy in a 5-year-old Hispanic boy with type 1 Gaucher disease. This case highlights the potential for accelerated progression of bone disease in these patients after splenectomy, and indicates the need for additional prospective investigations in patients who require splenectomy.
