A study on surface acid site properties of local diatomites

Abstract

In this paper, surface structure, pore structure and surface acid site properties of several kinds diatomite were studied. It was found that there was joined hydroxyl groups in Zhejiang white soil, only isolated and adjacent hydroxyl groups were found in other diatomite. Also there was some L acid and B acid in diatomite. The acid site properties of diatomites untreated as well as treated with NH4Cl or hydrochloric acid were all concerned with pore structure, surface structure of diatomite. As roast temperature increased, the acid site strength of diatomite increased, and the acid site amount gradually decreased.
