Abstract

A novel fiber Bragg grating(FBG) micrometric displacement sensor is designed to improve the sensitivity of the current FBG-based sensors. Since this structure is based on the principle of lever, the length of arm of force can be designed arbitrarily to satisfy different requirements of measurement, which results in that the grating can be strained more considerably as long as not being destroyed. Additionally, this packaging structure can avoid chirp, and it is easy to realize sensor-multiplexing to achieve the multi-dimensional multi-parameter measurement by means of cascading several structures. The experimental results demonstrate that the sensitivity is 12.5 nm/mm within the working range of 0.00-0.20 mm, which is improved more distinctly than other devices.
