T1 - A new method for evaluating ocular blood flow in glaucoma pointwise flow analysis of hrf images

N2 - Purpose. The Heidelberg Retinal Flowmeter (HRF) measures blood flow within retinal and optic nerve head capillaries The meaning of these measurements, remains difficult to interpret We have developed an analysis method which better describes retinal perfusion as measured by HRF. Method. HRF images were obtained from 11 NTG patients washed out from al! anti-glaucomatous medications, and 11 age and sex matched normals (p = ns) A single measurement pixel was swept over all high quality image locations and displayed by histogram with cumulative percentages. Flow values at cumulative percentages of 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, 95%, 99%, and 100% were compared. Percentage of 0 flow readings were also compared Results. NTGs had significantly greater percentage flow readings of 0 than normals (30% and 19% respectively, p - 0 02) Normals had higher flow values at cumulative percentages of 25%, 50%, and 75% (p < 005) Conclusions. Values of 0 may correspond to avascular areas within HRF images, and may provide method of quantifying areas of tissue with or without microvasculature NTG flow distributions are skewed to lower flow values than normals (Sunnorted hv NIH crant EY 10801 and unrestricted erants from Research to Prevent Blindness and The Glaucoma Foundation).
