Abstract

A 48 year old male alcoholic is brought in by ambulance to an urban emergency department with symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. He has presented on several occasions within the last 12 months for the same symptoms of tremor, tachycardia, diaphoresis, and a clear history of “running out of booze.” His past medical history is otherwise significant for hypertension diagnosed on a previous admission, for which he is non-compliant with medication outside the hospital. He denies any medication allergies.
