To the Editor: We were disappointed that Case 24–1971 (N Engl J Med 284:1369–1375, 1971), so well discussed by Dr. Anne P. Forbes, did not have a urinary determination of tetrahydro-S or a secretory rate of 11-deoxycortisol. We realize, of course, that the case was not one studied at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Nonetheless, in view of the addendum and the availability of the patient for follow-up study, such studies should be carried out in order to exclude the possibility of an 11-β-hydroxylase deficiency mentioned but not truly excluded by Dr. Forbes.
