Abstract
This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of fermented mulberry leaves on growth performance, plasma and urine metabolites of finishing pigs. Eighteen with body weight of (78.19±2.05) kg Duroc× Landrace×Large White barrow pigs were randomly assigned to 2 groups with 9 replicates per group and 1 pig per replicate. Pigs in the control group were fed a basal diet, and pigs in fermented mulberry leaves group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 10% fermented mulberry leaves. The experiment lasted for 69 days. The results showed as follows: 1) compared with the control group, dietary fermented mulberry leaves had no significant effect on growth performance of finishing pigs (P>0.05). 2) Compared with the control group, the creatinine, uric acid, triglyceride contents and lactate dehydrogenase activity in plasma of fermented mulberry leaves group were significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the plasma glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase activity tended to decrease (P = 0.079). 3) Compared with the control group, the urine creatinine content of fermented mulberry leaves group was significantly increased (P<0.05), while the uric acid content and lactate dehydrogenase activity in urine were significantly decreased (P<0.05). 4) Compared with the control group, the plasma glutathione content of fermented mulberry leaves group was significantly increased (P<0.05). 5) Compared with the control group, the contents of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-22, tumor necrosis factor-α, interferon-γ and immunoglobulin (Ig) A in plasma of fermented mulberry leaves group were significantly increased (P<0.05), and the contents of IgG and IgM in plasma tended to increase (P = 0.084 and P = 0.068). In conclusion, dietary 10% fermented mulberry leaves have no negative effect on the growth performance, while improve the plasma and urine metabolite contents, and enhance the antioxidant capacity and immune function of finishing pigs.
