Project Details

Dr. Ding hypothesized that the liver could be regenerated with a combination of liver cells and stem cell-derived liver blood vessels, providing a more hospitable environment for organ regeneration. His research identified the direct role that blood vessels have in regeneration, which holds promise to achieve durable functional liver regeneration and thwart liver failure. In his independent position, he is further exploring how chronically injured blood vessels could lead to the formation of tumors, revealing that a delicate balance is necessary for organ repair. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Weill Cornell in Dr. Shahin Rafii's lab
