Biography

Vanshdeep Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, and the Medical Director of the Center of Spirituality and Health (2014 to present), as well as the Center of Stress, Resilience and Personal Growth (2020 to present). He is also the Chair of the Practitioner Wellness Committee (PWC; 2014 to present), and the Committee on Inappropriate Use of Psychoactive Substances (IUPS; 2014 to present) for the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Sharma joined the Mount Sinai Community in 1986 as a fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Following graduation, he joined the Mount Sinai faculty as the head of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (1988 to 1993). He was then appointed the Clinical Director of the Child Division (1993 to 1998) and then as the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry for the entire Department of Psychiatry (1998 to 2003). In 2003, Dr. Sharma was appointed the Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry (2003 to 2012) and while working as the Vice Chair, he was appointed as the Director of the World Trade Center Mental Health Program (2006 to 2012). In 2012, Dr. Sharma was appointed as Associate Medical Director of the Mount Sinai Hospital (2012 to 2014).
Dr. Sharma is widely published in multiple areas including behavior disorders in child and adolescent psychiatry, trauma and resilience (as the Director of the World Trade Center Mental Health program), on patient satisfaction, religion, spirituality and mental health (as Medical Director of Spirituality and Health) and, more recently, on the COVID-19 pandemic and on resilience and personal growth.
