Biography

Richard L. Torbeck III, MD has an appointment in the rank of Assistant Professor in the Kimberly and Eric J. Waldman Department of Dermatology at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Director of Skin Cancer Surgery Blavatnick Family Chelsea Medical Center. After graduating from University of Toledo College of Medicine in 2013, Dr. Torbeck began his internal medicine internship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai St Luke's and Roosevelt (now Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West). In 2014, Dr. Torbeck began his dermatology training at Thomas Jefferson University Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Biology. Immediately following residency, Dr. Torbeck returned to the Icahn School of Medicine for a ACGME fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and ASDS Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Torbeck has already earned a bevy of clinical, academic, and educational achievements despite being so early in his career. While in medical school, Dr. Torbeck was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society as a third year student. He was given academic scholarships due to his commitment to success and thirst for knowledge. He also presented at the American College of Mohs Surgery Annual Meeting in 2012 while managing the rigors of medical school. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Torbeck has also spent considerable time mentoring, educating and lecturing students during his chief resident year at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Torbeck has co-authored thirteen publications, appearing as first author in six. Additionally he and two other authors is completing a chapter in Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology Series: Advanced Face Lifting. These have been accepted in high quality journals such as the Journal of Investigative Dermatology Dermatologic Surgery, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, and the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy. He has also produced nine posters and abstracts, consistently appearing in the annual meetings for The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and American College of Mohs Surgery.
