Biography
Dr. Braun is an assistant professor of ophthalmology with a focus on medical and surgical comprehensive ophthalmology. Originally a student of the humanities, Dr. Braun graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in Classics, and later earned his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Braun’s scholarly endeavors have ranged widely, from an undergraduate thesis on the philosophy of friendship to research on infrared laser development, innovative diagnostics, advanced retinal imaging, and the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration. Most recently his focus has been education and mentorship. Prior initiatives in these areas include the development of a college certificate (minor) program, working with Australian medical students on research project development as an adjunct associate lecturer, revision of medical school and residency ophthalmology education curricula, development of a residency mentorship program, and publication. As a full-time member of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary/Mount Sinai faculty, Dr. Braun is integrally involved in teaching medical and surgical ophthalmology to resident physicians in addition to having his own faculty practice. When not in the clinic or operating room, Dr. Braun enjoys creative writing, reading fiction and poetry, and woodworking. He speaks English and conversational Spanish.
