Biography

Dr. Luciana A. Vieira is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Vieira is a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist and specializes in maternal fetal medicine, providing expert, comprehensive care for women at high risk for complications during pregnancy, labor and delivery. She is among the team of experts at Mount Sinai’s Fetal Medicine Diagnostic and Treatment Center, where critical care is provided to unborn babies with birth defects. Dr. Vieira has special interests in pregnancies complicated by multiple gestations, history of poor obstetric outcomes including preterm delivery, maternal medical conditions (e.g., hypertensive disorders, lupus, diabetes, cardiac disease and organ transplant), as well as fetal anomalies. Dr. Vieira also specializes in obstetric ultrasound and obstetric procedures, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and cerclage placement. Her research interests include procedures in multiple gestations, cervical length screening, and maternal conditions in pregnancy. Dr. Vieira currently is a member of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Vieira earned her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in OBGYN at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. During her residency she was elected administrative chief resident. She completed her fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
