Biography

Louis R. DePalo, M.D. is a graduate of Georgetown University and New York Medical College. Dr. DePalo has a graduate degree in Human Physiology and extensive research experience in cell and molecular biology. Dr. DePalo's extensive include research interests in the study of human airway smooth muscle cell function, sarcoidosis and advanced lung diseases. Following many years of productive study in the Cardiovascular Institute of The Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. DePalo directed his research efforts to clinical medicine. In collaboration with Dr. Alvin Teirstein, Dr. DePalo participated in a case controlled epidemiology study of the causes of sarcoidosis (ACCESS Trial) and the study of the genetics of sarcoidosis (SAGA). Furthermore, in collaboration with http://www.mssm.edu/research/institutes/cardiovascular-institute Cardiovascular Institute and http://www.mssm.edu/rmti/ The Recanati-Miller TransplantationInstitute, Dr. DePalo has served as a consultant with the Pulmonary Hypertension and Lung Transplant Programs. Research in these areas includes the application of new therapeutic and diagnostic modalities to the treatment of patients with these disorders.
